Meta Tags:

Meta tags are a set of tags placed in the HTML header of website which provides information to search engines about the website. In Search engines keyword plays a vital role for ensuing higher ranking of any web site. The two most important Meta tags are Description & Keyword Meta Tag.

Description Meta tag: The description Meta tag is where one can describe what the website about to search engines. Search engine always look for title and description of website and then decides the ranking of website.

Description must be relevant to website. It should directly relate to both the title and the body content of website.

Use main keywords in the description Meta tag. The description should be self explanatory and free from grammatical errors.

Description should not exceed beyond 15 - 25 words. This is equivalent to about 2 - 3 short sentences.

Keyword Meta Tag: The Keyword Meta tag is where one can formulate a list of words that are directly related to your website. There are some methods to generate appropriate and good keywords hat increases the ranking of websites.

Don’t use keywords that are not relevant to your website. Keywords should consist of words that specifically describe what website is all about.

If one used the keywords that are found in the body of your website will leads to increases the relevancy of keywords. So it is always good practice to write the content of website prior to identifying the appropriate keywords.

Always consider when incorporating keywords in the Meta tag and the body of website. These are density, frequency, prominence, and proximity.

  1. Density refers to the number of times keywords appear against all the words within the website. It should in between 2% - 6%.
  2. Frequency refers to how often a keyword appears in the webpage. More a keyword appears the search engines searches more relevant webpage for that keyword.
  3. Prominence refers to where the keyword(s) are found in the webpage. To achieve this used keywords in title, description, at the beginning of the webpage, and sentences.
  4. Proximity refers to how close keywords are to each other.
