Interconnectivity of Ethnic Musical Instruments

Though each and every musical instrument belongs to a certain region and has its ethnicity, it will not be wrong to conclude that most of these ethnic instruments are connected in some way or the other. It will not be wrong to say that the Djembe drums and the Indian Tabla drums, though were originated in different countries, but nevertheless, they belong to the same class of a percussion instrument called Drums.

Djembe drums which first originated in Africa, have become immensely popular throughout the world today and are considered as an ideal representative of the west- African tradition throughout the world. The word “Djembe” signifies the unison of everyone in order to celebrate.

On the other hand, the Indian Tabla Drums, which originated in North India, have an upbeat and ecstatic sound to them which leaves the listeners enthralled.  It is used in all sorts of popular, religious and even world music.

It was generally believed that instrument players, like Tabla players and drum players are mere accomplices to the main vocalists. However, this belief has gradually faded away with musicians who play ethnic instruments have managed to create a separate niche for themselves and brought immense popularity to these instruments as well.

Apart from these, we also have Bodhran which is an Irish percussion drum. Though the initial Bodhran drums made use of goatskins, the modern- day drums which are carved for professional purposes, make use of integrated mechanical tuning systems for their fine performance.
